This week Australian Rural Exports Pty Ltd (AUSTREX) will send its second component of a 5,600 head consignment of Australian cattle to Russia.
Departing from Portland, the cattle are destined for a group of farms supported by local governments in far-east Russia. This consignment of 2,750 head of dairy and beef breeding cattle is comprised of Angus, Hereford and Holstein including breeding heifers and young breeding bulls. This shipment follows a 2800 head shipment in September 2012 also comprising of Angus, Hereford and Holsteins breeding heifers and bulls.
Over the past four years AUSTREX has invested heavily in Russia to support the development of Animal Welfare, cattle management and infrastructure, to ensure the sustainability of the markets within the region. We have developed excellent working relationships with these customers and their Governments in recent years and look forward to working together to deliver quality livestock within safe, humane, traceable livestock management systems, well into the future.
We believe both Beef and Dairy Cattle demand from Russia and other markets in the region is very sustainable and we are investing to ensure these markets exist for Australian farmers.
The cattle destined for far-east Russia are following on from a number of very successful AUSTREX shipments to the region in 2011. AUSTREX credits this success to the extensive pre and post discharge work we do with our customers. We have staff based in both Russia and Australia concentrating on empowering these communities through trade, technology and best practice support.
