(GPO Box 132, Brisbane, QLD, 4001)

This breed is popular for the high butterfat content of its milk and lower maintenance costs because of its lower bodyweight.

Physical Characteristics

The Jersey cow is quite small, ranging from only 400-500kilograms. The contributing factors to their popularity have been their greater economy of production, because of the ability to carry a larger number of effective milking cows per unit because of lower body weight.

Milk Production

Jersey’s produce less milk per annum than Holsteins but because of their lower body weight, superior grazing ability and lower maintenance requirements they have a greater economy of production and, if looked after properly, can last longer than Holsteins.
